v0.3 Update!


If the update is not available, wait a bit and try refreshing! I put out this devlog as the build went in to GameJolt.

A big update if I've ever saw one, but also a very highly anticipated one on my end. I can't wait for you guys to see the Engorger, and I'm really hoping you guys are excited for what I have coming.

New enemies, entirely new levels that focus on a new aesthetic like school halls, service tunnels, meat freezers, an abandoned ghost town neighborhood, etc. That's far into the future. Let's get into the update that's releasing TONIGHT.

IMPORTANT: I was going to add Journal Entries and Objectives this update!! But due to a complete bug in my Engine version I have to push this back until I can fully figure it out. It works perfectly in the engine, but when the game is built it errors and softlocks, not letting the player exit Journal. Because of this, I'm pushing the more story-heavy elements of the update to the next.

+Also because of the previous, I've removed the new Intro Cutscene until it's finished. It's strictly because of me being self-conscious about some janky animation, so blame me all you want lol.

+Adjusted player camera, lighting

+Beds properly shift the time to day/night appropriately. Known issue now is days go up by a random amount.

+Beds no longer spontaneously combust and disappear after waking up on one.

+Added The Engorger

  • A monster that feeds on fear and relies on its senses.. The beast can pounce from afar to close great distances, can jump up onto or over obstacles, and can put an abrupt end to your journey through the Backrooms if you're injured enough.

  • Jumpscare Cancelling is possible if the player fights hard enough against the Engorger's grip, but keep in mind doing this once or twice will leave you utterly exhausted, giving you a bigger penalty for each time it's done.

  • Can be stunned by Flash Cameras for a moment.

~SWAT members can now vault over obstacles.

+Decided that more work was to be done with Poolrooms before I released it. It tanks performance and rarely works properly when spawned at runtime.

+SWAT members can be blinded with the Flash Camera.

+Added Flash Camera (Tool/Key Item)

  • Can only be found on SWAT corpses.

  • Can be shot once before a 15 second cooldown starts.

  • 2 charges max (until upgrade is added)

+Added Camera Film (Tool/Key Item)

  • Recharges Flash Camera with 2 charges - consumed on use.

  • Found on SWAT corpses.

  • You're not wasteful, so you can't use these unless your Flash Camera doesn't have any flashes left.

+Added Worklamp (Building Component)

  • Emits bright light at any hour, regardless of power.

  • May tank performance, testing. If it turns out to make your game run horribly, I'll fix it ASAP!

+Added Adrenaline (Medical Item)

  • An adrenaline shot that can only be used whilst injured.

  • Boosts you to 1.2x the Injured Running speed consistently, sprinting or not without consuming stamina for 30 seconds.

  • Will nerf if too broken. I'm evil like that.

+Added Painkillers (Medical Item)

  • Pauses your bleeding timer for 15 seconds and gives you the inner strength to keep absolutely quiet during this period.

  • Will buff if too weak.

+Added Early UI meters. Small bars beside character vitals that allow easier insight into your exact situation.

+Removed all SCP-linked properties as I take the game in an original direction

+Added crosshair "Indicator" functionality to show different icons based on what Player is looking at (hand when looking at Item, vault icon when vault is available, shop icon when shop is available, etc)

+Added Player Urgency movement

  • The player can run through closed doors to open them faster as well as come through with a bit of extra momentum. Mostly not the case when injured.

  • The player can vault waist high objects when the Vault Indicator is visible.

+Added a bunch of new rooms.

+Overhauled night music with dynamic safe/hostile system

+Overhauled menu music

+Radius-based music system for the Engorger.

+Added basic fall-stagger

+Added distance-based culling functionality to lights to hopefully reduce FPS-influence

+Working on an actually good graphical settings menu for 0.4 because they always end up ugly in my experience

-Removed Herobrine.
