We just realised that we never published our first dev log to GameJolt. Mind that this was written before we published our newest abilities patch.

Dev log # 1

Hi all you lovely monsters and runts,

It is time for our first development log. We are thrilled to let you get a peek behind the curtains and see what we are currently working on. We also want to share our plans for the near future in terms of new releases and events.

New Playtest Build
First things first. If everything goes according to plan we will push a new playtest build to Steam on Friday, 17th November 2023, featuring abilities. The monster will be able to cast blood trails, making it easier to find the runts and the runts will be able to deploy decoys that can help them escape the monsters.

Progress - Art

New Assets

Lucas and Anastasia are currently working hard at developing a new look for the game. The assets currently in the game are a weird blend of homemade and flipped assets. While perfect for testing gameplay they do not exactly shine in the spotlight.

At the time being Lucas has made a new set of tools and various environmental props and set pieces.

To give an idea of what the final game strives towards in terms of visual fidelity we have composed this GIF.

Champions

While we are really stoked about the new assets we are perfectly aware that it is the champions that really carry the game. They do however require much more thought, consideration and time to develop since they are the focal point of the game.

So far we imagine the lineup of monsters will feature a wolf and a witch. The runts on the other hand will have a pig, a garden gnome and a fairy.

An early preview from what you can expect can be seen in this splash art Anastasia is working on.

Progress - Programming

Class System

Mikkel is currently working on our new class system. Down the line we want to have several champions on each team, as described above. As a player you should be able to choose the champion that you prefer to play as on each team. Furthermore the champions can be upgraded by earning experience after each game. The upgrades can modify  the champions’ stats and abilities.

Here is a preview of what Mikkel is working on. Don’t mind the programmer UI 😀

Champion Abilities

As teased in the beginning of the post, we will release a new playtest build featuring champion abilities. Abilities is a character defining move / attack which the champions can use now and then.

We have had an ability system in the game for a while but it is the first time we are testing it publicly. We hope you like it.

Future Outlook

Our next milestone is the release of the new build next week. Art development is an ongoing process and we will probably not implement any new art before we have enough assets to populate an entire map.

On the programming and implementation side of development we will continually release updates to the playtest featuring new powerups, maps and of course bug fixes. Hopefully it won’t be long before we implement a basic version of the class and progression system that allows for upgrading the two champions currently featured in the game.

We also plan to announce an official playtest that we hope you will participate in. Until then we encourage you to join us on Discord, play some games with us and give us feedback.

That’s all for now! Happy hunting!

Ever since our first dev log, we’ve been teasing the new champions coming to TagTime. In our last dev log, we showed you the beautiful progress Lucas had made in fleshing out the pig in three dimensions. Now it's time that we introduce 'Luske'..

A bit late to the party, but Happy New Year nonetheless 🥳 After a welcomed holiday break we are back at it with a dev log covering our progress developing #TagTime and a look at what’s to come for 2024.

The feeling of being watched..

Hi all,

We've decided to put our biweekly devlog schedule on hold for the time being. As we are actively pursuing third-party funding, we need time to focus on finalizing a vertical slice of the game.

We now have our entire cast of characters fleshed out in 3D. Read more about it here..

We have visually overhauled TagTime! To really get our game development rolling, we are looking to establish a community that we can playtest our game together with. Join our journey on our community Discord! https://discord.gg/mE6K9nyYsx

Lucas working his magic on #TagTime
