Since I gave a release date for this game, I decided that I should try to go back into the method of delivering weekly updates until that day comes. I settled on June 16th because that will be the second anniversary of when I announced this damn game. Hard to believe this game has been in development for that long without coming out, but I’m sort of thankful that it happened because the version that died with my computer was drastically inferior.
This might be conflicting but I decided to not make skills be something that is learned upon leveling up, and instead make an upgrade station. I haven’t designed the graphics for this yet so it looks bland, but gets the job done. There have been multiple stages for the skills: The first was that they were all learned from leveling up. The second was that upgraded versions replaced the weaker versions when used an appropriate amount of times. The third and most recent is now to buy them with AP (which is earned every time you level up).
The lore behind this is that Professor Gerald Robotnik wants to learn more about chaos energy, and absorbs it from Shadow whenever he grows stronger. In return he gives skills and upgrades to choose from.
Techniques and Chaos Powers are simply the skills that Shadow would normally learn, except they’re divided between what’s chaos and what’s not. Attributes are miscellaneous status, such as critical hit rate, or XP rate.
This might be overwhelming, so I’m constantly adjusting the values of how much AP each skill/attribute requires.
The same goes of stats such as Attack and Defense; I changed those a while ago to manually upgrade-able through the allocation of stat points whenever you level up to allow the player to balance Shadow however the feel. Do you want him to be a power house that kills? Do you want him to be able to withstand more than one attack? Do you want him to attack first? The choices are (not un)limited! I often forget to upgrade his stats when I level up so either it wasn’t a good decision, or I just suck when it comes to remembering.
Edit: To compensate for the long ass wait I put up more screenshots and some of the soundtrack on the game’s main page. I’ll be updating the trophies as well because those haven’t been touched/tested on either the site or the game in over a year.
