One key thing to know how to make a good horror game (in my own opinion), is how you want your story to impact the player and how would they react to environment they're playing in. I follow by this specifically and very carefully. What about you?

My favorite Nintendo game brand growing is Mario, because I remember the times where everytime I go to my Mama and Papa's old house, they had the old NES in the back and with it came the original Super Mario Bros. game.
