Like an endless runner where you jump over obsticals and enemies, only here you shoot them.

Game design change.
The original idea was wait 5 seconds and an enemy spawns. Very boring.
Now there is going to be insane combat with lots of explosions, new enemies, portals, and platforming.
That sounds a lot more fun, right?
