In Axe & Bow Land, players take on the role of the brothers Axel and Bowie, warriors blessed by an ancient prophecy and equipped with sacred weapons: a magical axe that freezes enemies and a divine bow. Set in a mythical Aztec era, the game tells the story of a once-peaceful land, now ravaged by a strange and dark energy emerging from an ancient temple. Axel and Bowie are the only ones immune to the control of this darkness, and together, they embark on a journey to restore peace and balance to their homeland.
The game unfolds across six unique worlds, each featuring five levels that offer varied challenges, from vertical-scrolling platforming stages to intense boss battles and shoot 'em up levels. Each world is meticulously designed in pixel art style, with a color palette inspired by the classic game Rainbow Islands, giving the game a nostalgic and visually appealing feel.
As players progress, they must face enemies controlled by the evil entity, including manipulated animals and Aztec warriors. Axel, with his ability to immobilize enemies, enables access to new areas by using frozen foes as platforms, while Bowie, in his own shoot 'em up levels, eliminates threats with his divine bow. The game features multiple endings.
