What if M.U.G.E.N was balanced? Well, then we would have the best fighting game ever. My only problem with M.U.G.E.N is that it lacked character balance so the game could never become competitive.
Battle Buddies would allow you to almost create your own character... but you only have limited resources. Your goal is to make a character with a playstyle so unique and interesting to beat all players you come across. Or you can make a straight-forward character who uses a lot of moves you consider useful and you can practice and "git gud" with said character.
The stable build will include 3 game modes:
Break-out Battles: Start a fight with all your "buddies"
Bring Buddies: Create a buddy. You can select one of 5 tiers: C-Tier(characters as strong as Street Fighter 2 characters), B-Tier(strong as KOF characters. Biggest difference is the fact you have a super meter), A-Tier(MVC styled characters. Biggest difference is super meter and the use of assist characters), S-Tier(unlimited resources), and God-Tier(Mix and match tiers together for a 3v3. You can choose to summon them all at once or one at a time)
Tutorial: Teaches you how to play well and teaches you how to make strong characters(for each tier except S-Tier).
The complete build could also exist. Freefork wants to make as many unique projects as possible, so he tends to move away from projects when they are at an "okay" state to leave off at(because the main goal of project was achieved).
The Complete Build will include:
A Mission mode that encourages you to make different playstyles to meet certain requirements.
The inclusion of 10 default characters.
A Custom Tier mode that allows you to make characters under your restrictions.
Here is the planned process of making a character will be:
You set a default character. You change his species(human, dog, Puffball, Bird, etc). You set his palettes. You give him effects, like cute animal sidekicks, fire aura, nature growing wherever he walks. You then start to assign weapons. You are in B-Tier, so you only have 50 energy. You give your character a sword, which costs 10. A hand gun(pistol), which costs 10. Then, KI Balance(Ryu hadouken, Goku beams, etc) which costs 10. You make all his punches a sword swipe so damage is increased and attacks are disjointed. It costed 5. That is kinda a lot. You decide to take of one point by increasing the start up frames of all your punches. So it now costed 4 in total of 34. You assign a gun shot special move, which costs 5. You give your character the ability to Ki teleport. It costed 10. You could customize the teleport, so you did. You set the coordinates for all 3 kick buttons so you can teleport upward, teleport to cross the opponent up, and teleport in place for some invincibility or for a bait. You then spend the last one point to enable the ability to not be able to get K.Oed via chip damage. Then you started a battle, and went wild!
A wiser character creator would have spend time giving their character less weapons and more skills like EX moves or Supers.
