This is a first person shooter training course. Navigate through a storage facility as you dodge turrets and shoot targets. Faster times and headshots increase your score. Built with a number of Unreal asset packs. #shooter #KSUCapstone20

This is a self defined project I am working on for my Spring 2020 Capstone class at Kent State University overseen by Chris Totten. I started this project around mid February with a deadline of May 6. This project includes work with level design, environment art, and game mechanics.

After multiple playtesting sessions I decided to make the trainyard smaller and a little more linear. I wanted it to be an area to highlight confusion but with my game mechanics I decided that was a bad idea. It still has multiple pathways but less so.

I wanted to have the game to be a cover shooter with chest high walls the player can use. I needed mechanics to reflect this so I added stationary turrets to shoot the player. Thing is, the player hitbox extends above the player even when crouched.

Here are some more recent screenshots. I have made some slight changes to level design to accomodate the assets I had to work with. I have also ran into issues with frame drops that I had to diagnose among other issues by this point.

These are some of the earliest screenshots I have of my project.

As of May 1st the game is playable and reaching a point I will upload a public build soon!
