This game might be the best Punch Out project I have played, this was an incredible experience, and to be there since the start of knowing this project has been an amazing time, although pressing L brings up what I can assume to be a sort of credits, and beating Mr. Dream doesn't give this supposed credits sequence. But still, bravo, this game has kept me going through exams and basically anything knowing this game, was here. Bravo, bravo.
I've played several Punch-Out mods and Scratch games. This is the first that captures the feeling and rhythm of the original. The creator clearly understands the source content and has integrated features from all of the titles in the series. The animations and sprite work are awesome, particularly during the between round cutscenes with the progressive damage to portraits. They have also expanded the classic training montage with additional exercises reminiscent of the Rocky movies that undoubtedly inspired the series. It's awesome to have the entire cast of characters in the original 8-bit style, as that's my introduction to the series and the version of Mac I'm most fond of.
There are a few wrinkles to still iron out, but the bulk of an outstanding unsanctioned sequel is here. It's as if Super Punch-Out!! were released for the NES with an expanded sprite palette. The only issues I've ran into are a few occasional stutters, garbled sprites for the Star Punch tally, and inaccurate counts of available Star punches in classic mode. (Sometimes you lose them without getting hit; sometimes it shows you have Star punches when you do not; sometimes they just can't be activated, even though there are visual cues that they have been earned through counter punches.) None of these issues detract from enjoying the game, however. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I'm on the World circuit and haven't experienced any major issues. I should also note that I'm playing this on Steam Deck through Proton Experimental.
Thank you for your awesome work on this! It's everything I imagined and have wanted in a Punch-Out!! remake, rom hack, or sequel. (For reference, here's my wish list on another forum. You've added most of this and then some! https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=38363.msg470260#msg470260 ) Thank you!!
I just started playing, and I got to say, THIS GAME IS AMAZING. Even though I'm only at Bear Hugger, I have three things I'd like to change. The first is to change Disco Kid's portrait. I don't hate it, but it's kind of out of place next to the amazing sprites this game has to offer. My second change it to slow down the referee running on the ring. He just runs in at sonic speed, and it made me laugh the first time I seen it. The third change is if Doc wins with his cheetah shirt on, he randomly gets the red jacket back in one of the sprites. Other than these issues, I LOVE THIS GAME. Keep up the good work!
Before you play the game. In case it doesn't work good, download Win.Rar and use it to open the game. It will make it 100% work.
Hello
Joe Man's Punch-Out!!
Description
Punch-Out!!, made by Nintendo, is one of my favorite games of all time. I've beaten the Wii Game several times, and got to Tyson on the NES one. I starting working on this game by reskinning Mr. Dream, eventually turning into a full fledged game. The game is still being worked on, but it should release soon. I hope you enjoy the Mask X demo!
