Life for Yoshiro is an endless cycle of defeat. While his family thrives—his father runs a successful business, his mother is a respected doctor, his sister married to a renowned architect—he alone seems cursed. Every job ends in humiliating dismissal, his debts pile up like falling snow, and his tiny rented room in Tokyo’s cheapest district stopped feeling like a home long ago, becoming instead a cage for a solitary beast. Each night, he returns hollow-eyed, sometimes forgetting even to heat up a cheap cup of instant noodles.
Everything changes the night Inari appears—a fox demigod whose beauty masks the weight of ancient guilt. She reveals a terrible truth: his great-grandfather, driven to desperation by poverty, offered himself as a sacrifice, pleading, "Let all my descendants be happy." His blood became the price for the family’s prosperity…
But something went wrong.
Inari offers quick fixes—bags of gold, high-paying jobs "through connections," supernatural talents. Yet Yoshiro, though broken by life, stubbornly refuses this false happiness. "If I accept this, then my great-grandfather died for nothing," he mutters, turning away from the glittering gifts.
Their uneasy coexistence warps reality within his shabby apartment. Walls sometimes flicker with ancestral memories, spirits whisper in the corners at night, and Inari herself alternates between reshaping the space into an ancient shrine and fumbling awkwardly with the microwave.
Can they ever truly coexist?
