As of 2026, this project is officially OPEN-SOURCE. This version MAY INCLUDE

BUGS AND GLITCHES. Players may encounter physics errors, placeholder assets,

or unexpected crashes. This project is a "Living Engine"—your feedback and

code contributions help us identify and squash these bugs faster.

[ 0. THE SLAM PHILOSOPHY ]

The name "Slam" is a direct tribute to the 1996 cinematic classic SPACE JAM.

It captures that high-energy, "everything-is-possible" crossover spirit

where completely different worlds collide on one stage. By going Open-Source,

we ensure the "Slam" legacy lives on through the hands of the fans.

• 2009: THE LEGACY ROOTS (Super Smash Bros. Slam)

Originally created by Twister32. Hosted on the YoYo Games Archive. More

than a simple remake, it established the "Slam" brand in Game Maker.

• 2020: THE RELAUNCH

A modern revival using Smash Crusade (v0.1 - v0.8.4) as a reference point.

• 2024: M.U.G.E.N FULL GAME EXPERIMENT

A pivot into the M.U.G.E.N engine to test traditional 2D fighting mechanics

and high-fidelity sprite work (CHOUJIN/Z2 style).

• 2025: THE PLATFORMER EXPERIMENT

Rebuilt using the Springroll Games Engine to test platforming physics.

• 2026: THE NEW ERA (NEW Super Smash Bros. Slam)

Total rebirth in Game Maker. Combining the 2009 legacy, M.U.G.E.N precision,

and Gemini AI coding. Officially declared OPEN-SOURCE.

To add custom stages in the Game Maker project:

1. CREATE THE ROOM: Create a new room (e.g., `stage_new_stage`).

2. REGISTER THE ID: In `scr_stage_init`, add the logic:

if (name == "newID") global.stage_room[i] = stage_new_stage;

3. ASSIGN MUSIC: In `scr_music_data`, link the ID to an FMOD sound file:

• COLLISION: Fighters may clip through moving platforms on Onett/Mute City.

• AI BEHAVIOR: CPUs can become unresponsive trapped under Battlefield geometry.

• SPRITE FLICKER: Depth-sorting issues with large CHOUJIN/CvS sprite overlaps.

• AUDIO: FMOD loop points may drift during long sessions on some hardware.

[ 6. GETTING STARTED ]

INSTALLATION:

1. Extract the .zip file to a dedicated folder.

2. Ensure the /fighters/ and /music/ folders are in the same directory as

SSB_Slam.exe.

3. Run SSB_Slam.exe to begin.

HOW TO ADD EXTERNAL FIGHTER PACKS:

1. Download a compatible .txt fighter pack from our YouTube community links.

2. Place the character folder into the root /fighters/ directory.

3. The engine will automatically parse the logic on the next startup.
