Custom platforming maps from the old Red Faction modding/mapping community, colloquially called Runmaps or Deathruns, brought together in a stand-alone game!

Replay the maps like the good old days, take on the most difficult challenges with the new checkpoint system, or happily no-clip around your favorite maps to discover all the hidden secrets.

If you have feedback about the game, discovered a bug or want to add your own Redfaction maps to this game, feel free to contact me at

I am still looking for input on the quality and difficulty of the maps, let your opinion be heard!

Latest Update
A Basic version of multiplayer has been implemented and all major bugs have been patched. invite your friends and take on challenges together!

Notes on the game

The game tries to follow the feel of the original Red Faction maps as much as possible, making a few compromises for the sake of playability, development time and due to differences in the physics engine.

  • On medium or low difficulty settings players may set custom checkpoints when not moving.

  • On those difficulties the player can also enjoy a detector tool that helps to find invisible walls and random death traps.

  • On casual difficulty players receive cheating tools that they can use to explore and practice the map.

  • Geomodding is replaced by a mining tool that teleports the player trough destructible terrain. This tool has the same use conditions as regular geomodding would.

  • Weapons are simplified to include only bare minimum to complete runmaps (damage and mining).

  • Player models, the GUI plus some environment models and textures were custom made to patch holes in the source material.

  • Lighting and materials work entirely differently in Unity. RedFaction graphics have been ported as well as possible, but some differences are unavoidable.

  • Menu, options and saved data have been streamlined for the runmap only format, in particular the game will keep track of your highest record on each map.

All of the game's code is open source and published on Github. I am personally done using it, but I will support further updates if someone say wants to recreate the single player campaign in Unity, using the same tools:
