VOID

Version: 1.0.021 days ago
about_the_project.png

A few months ago, while going through some old items, we found an old 5.25-inch floppy disk for the Apple II among the belongings of a relative who had bought it at a garage sale around 1985. The disk was severely degraded, but we managed to extract its raw data and rebuild the file system from scratch using modern software.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the original hardware, we at Nuclear Ware Dev have rebuilt this engine from scratch. What began as a simple attempt at digital preservation turned into a labor of love: we’ve polished and restored every line of code to share this unique piece of art, long lost to time. We wanted to bring it into the 21st century intact, with all the respect and affection that the golden age of 8-bit gaming deserves.

The movement was left unchanged to preserve the historical accuracy and originality of the work as it was originally conceived.

VOID isn’t just a static layout; it’s a procedurally generated ecosystem meticulously designed to test your wits.

  • Thanks to its random level generation, the corridors will be completely different every time you launch the game. No two playthroughs are alike; memorization won’t save you.

  • The environment responds to your progress. As you venture deeper into the darkness to collect key fragments, the labyrinth and its dangers will become increasingly aggressive.

  • You must evade residual specters using only your instinct, your sense of direction, and your courage in a visually relentless environment.

(READ CAREFULLY BEFORE RUNNING)

To maintain immersive fidelity, we implemented a high-fidelity cathode-ray tube (CRT) simulation and spatial audio rendering. During the restoration process, we had to tweak some lines of code to make the retro engine work on modern systems. You may experience some minor glitches during gameplay:

  • Slight visual glitches or desynchronization in the interface.

  • Low-frequency audio artifacts.

  • Occasional feelings of disorientation or mild dizziness (we believe this is a side effect of the CRT filter refresh rate we implemented).

We have thoroughly reviewed the code. These errors are harmless and do not affect the game’s overall objective.

For the most authentic audio experience, we strongly recommend using headphones.

WARNING: Due to the complexity of the original code's architecture, the game currently only works on Windows. However, there are plans to release it on macOS in the near future. #horror #analog #retro
