Acid trip is a puzzle platformer, where you play as a living blood sample called Ichor, while he goes on a journey of self-discovery through a surreal land of visual ecstasy.
The objective of acid trip is to get as high as possible. The platformer aspect of this game is the key to making it to the end, which is a portal to enlightenment at the highest point that Ichor can reach. The game itself is built on a vertical playing field, where he has to climb higher and higher from platform to platform to make it to the end. The only way to get that high is to find 'caps' that give him the speed and levity needed to ascend to enlightenment.
There are a number of obstacles getting in the way of the players journey to enlightenment, the foremost of which is gravity. As the trip begins, Ichor feels heavy and slow, but as he progresses, picking up speed and levity caps on the way, he gets faster, lighter and more agile.
There are other environmental factors that’ll just straight up harm you as well, spikes walls and pitfalls etc. These sorts of obstacles are the kinds of distractions that are no threat to the focused and determined, but spell doom to the individual that is too absorbed by the world they’re engulfed in.
In some circumstances environmental obstacles can be destroyed, which is one reason Ichor has a gun. The most valuable use for this gun however is on the one obstacle that isn’t part of the environment, the squiddies. These creatures represent the players inner demons and plague every level of the game.
The secret to beating this trip isn’t to memorize enemy movements or find the secret path to the top, the only way to enlightenment in Acid trip, like in life is to go beyond traditional convention, break the mold and defeat your own inner demons to reach enlightenment.
