Angry Neighbor Classic: Recode is a fresh take on the classic stealth-horror genre. You play as an uninvited guest trying to discover what your suspicious neighbor is hiding. To survive, you need to find tools, solve puzzles, and outsmart a relentless AI that patrols, reacts to sounds, and breaches your defenses.
I took the essence of the original game and completely revamped the backend mechanics, rendering systems, and pathfinding. This results in a tighter, more polished, and immersive horror experience.
What’s New in the Recode?
I’ve been busy fixing bugs, improving the AI loops, and adding strong atmosphere to the game world. Here are the key gameplay updates I’ve introduced:
Dynamic Night Cycles & Immersive Audio
The passage of time now directly impacts your gameplay. When night arrives, the environment changes:
- Pitch-Black Fog: A thick, heavy fog rolls in at night, drastically reducing visibility and turning the neighborhood into a claustrophobic nightmare.
- Contextual Audio: The sound landscape shifts. Daytime noises fade away, replaced by an eerie ambient track that increases tension as you sneak around in the dark.
Smarter AI Threat Management
The Neighbor’s intelligence has been significantly improved to prevent frustrating loops while keeping the pressure high:
- The Safe-Haven Bed Mechanic: If you’re being chased by the Neighbor and manage to escape into a bed to sleep, the Neighbor will immediately lose your trail, stop the chase music, and return to his regular patrol. This provides a high-stakes option to break line-of-sight.
- Robust Anti-Stuck System: You no longer watch the Neighbor get stuck against walls. The AI now tracks its own physics. If it gets wedged in complex geometry for more than a few seconds, it automatically warps back to a safe patrol point.
Re-Engineered Interaction & Barricade Systems
I completely separated the interaction timers from the frame-rate update loop.
- Flawless Door Mechanics: Fixed an old bug where looking at locked or barricaded doors would freeze the game’s interaction state.
- Smooth Progress UI: Breaking down barricades with a hammer or unlocking doors with specific Key IDs now tracks your mouse-hold progress with a clear visual overlay that acts naturally if you let go.
