Some memories were never meant to come back.

FazTech Memory Solutions Inc. built its name on one promise: that the worst thing that ever happened to you could be taken out and left behind. The procedure was elective, and the consent forms were signed in triplicate. For a few years, the people who walked out were grateful, and quieter than they used to be.
None of them could say what had been taken.

What FazTech removed was never destroyed. It was only moved, and it did not stay where they moved it. The discarded memories went looking for somewhere to settle, and they found the building itself, its old wiring and the wards nobody emptied when the doors finally closed. The place has been remembering on its own ever since.

You're inside it now. The cameras only show the hospital as it was, archived and looping. Watch closely, because not everything in those rooms with you shows up on the footage.
You have until morning to pull the fragments loose. Manage it, and you might learn what they were so desperate to bury down here.

CTRL-Z: Zero is a first-person survival horror, played entirely from one fixed office. Every night gives you a set amount of time to pull a required number of memory fragments out of the building before the session ends. Surviving the night isn't the goal on its own. If the clock runs out and you're still short on fragments, you've failed, no matter how alive you are when it does.
Your only tool is the Memory Scanner. You pick it up, aim it at a zone, and run a scan. Land it on an anomaly and you tear a fragment free and drive the thing back. Miss, and you've burned one of the ten charges you get each night, and ten doesn't go far once the building wakes up.
The Camera System shows you the hospital as the memory keeps it, room by room. That footage is your baseline: whatever it shows belongs there and can't hurt you, even a figure in the hall, so long as it's on the feed too. What's standing in the room with you but isn't on the cameras is an anomaly, and that's what you scan before it reaches you.
