Hey, your game sounds awesome! I’d recommend doing the following to turn it into a bigger success on Game Jolt!
1. Post about your game, news and updates in as many communities as it makes sense! Communities like Game Dev or Arts n Crafts will get your posts in front of thousands of users! Find more communities here: https://gamejolt.com/communities.
2. Write a bio on your profile. A complete profile always looks more legitimate in the eyes of the community. This is a great place to add in your website or other social channels.
3. Post and update your followers frequently to stay on their radar! :)
Very interesting antalogy - as a fellow developer I was pretty much fascinated by how you had improved the base concept over time, and expanded it with a lore, readable info signs, new game mechanics, etc.
I think my favorite addition was the includement of friendly NPCs the players could talk to in the last installment. Also the humor was pretty charming too in that episode.
Overall - especially the earlier installments - kinda felt like strange computer dreams, I even genuinely enjoyed the music in those, I assume you recorded the track by putting a microphone next to the computer speakers Even the clicks and your occasional sighs were audible, but I think those were kinda increased the charming factor
So yeah, while these are obviously not really great as games, it was nevertheless a pretty fascinating journes for me.
If you need some inspiration for how to do world building in a very simple 2d platformer, I'd definitely recommend you to check out Nicklas Nygren's Knytt. His website isn't really functional anymore, so I could share a direct download link only - but the game is free, and although minimalistic in its gameplay mechanics, the world feels very charming
I LOVE THIS GAME! It reminds me of old flash games from the 2010's!
The Jumper series is a collection of poorly made games, that feature a sentient jumper, who's alive, along with some other strange creatures. Originally, it was a comic i just drawn back in 2017, and later that year, when i've been making a platformer game, i had trouble with jumping, as the player rather just flew, i choose Jumper to be the protagonist since he can fly anyways, and then i don't have to fix the jumping mechanics.
You can download all the Jumper games here. It Includes the first 4 installments, + Jumper 5 Demo, and older versions of Jumper games, and some remakes.
