This is bad... This is so bad..
Congratulations; I made this account just to run through this game. And...oh, man. Good lord, how horrendous! Where to start on the mistakes? There are so many! The physics engine, the graphics, the music, the character select, the BLOODY PLOTLINE, even basic logical fallacies! Guess I should start from the top...
So I boot the game up, and I'm greeted with some Inafune art of the Robot Masters and a poorly resized loading bar. They look nice enough, the Robots, but they could be better; don't exactly look like anything special. The game finishes loading, absorbs my screen (Hey, what gives?), aaand...Mega Man 42. That's it, that's the title screen. ...What? Where's my opening cutscene explaining what the hell I'm doing? No plotline in-game? That's kinda lame.
But I can live with that. I set up my options (Noting the lack of a windowed gameplay option with a note of disappointment) and boot up the game...okay, Rock and Roll. I like Roll; let's be Roll!
Then I get greeted with the Robot Masters (Side note: the hell is an Ombuds?) in all their ugly mugshot glory. I decide to play Brain-Man after some brief thought, and...well, ugh! What is up with this graphical style for these tiles? It's blatantly ugly, and doesn't look anything like it belongs in a Mega Man game. And the music is atrocious! Feels like I'm playing a game meant for some Mega Man wannabe.
Then I start playing. I note that Roll plays like an X wannabe, with her dash-jumping. Though, the jumping physics are weird...nothing like they should be in a Mega Man game. I rip through some strange-looking enemies like they were nothing—then I get hit for the first time. "Wait...that's my knockback?!" That's not what knockback is like in a Mega Man game at all! I keep slogging on until I get bored and reboot the game as Rock, this time aiming for Sand-Man. My opinion of the game did not get better from there.
I made it halfway through Brain-Man, ultimately lost to Sand-Man, and then went on to defeat Ombuds and Mad. So, in brief...here are my thoughts.
Graphics & Music: Tiles are ugly and unfitting to the Mega Man style. Not a single thing of what I saw that I can say was visually appealing. The music ranged from being okay, but unmemorable to utterly atrocious.
Gameplay: The jump arc and knockback path are utterly alien to any form of Mega Man game I have ever seen before, and it shows. Designing levels for Mega Man physics and then failing to emulate them is utterly infuriating. On top of that, Roll is boring to play as, having the exact same weapon as her brother, but there's no reason to play as Rock, as Roll has everything he has plus her dash.
Enemies & Bosses: Enemies range from uninteresting to utterly out-of-style (Such as the spiked balls seen in Ombuds and Mad). The game makes it incredibly easy to mow them down, and they are never arranged in a clever way to have them really screw the player over. Bosses appear to be equally brainless, spending half the fight running around aimlessly and allowing you to jump over them and the other half actually fighting, unless they bust out a cheap attack (Sand's floor-scatter of sand is not telegraphed at all; Mad's Needle-Man-like "melee" reaches far further than it reasonably should). It doesn't feel good to kill the bosses, and their anatomies are very clunky. Don't think I didn't notice that Brain and Sand have the exact same feet.
Plotline: ...Um...where is it? I thought there would be one from the description, but there appears to be none at all.
In a nutshell, the game is no fun for me to play. I felt no sense of accomplishment from defeating the bosses that I did, and I do not willingly see myself wanting to finish the game until it has seen vast revision.

Mega Man 42
A Mega Man fan game by Servadac. Made with Game Maker 8.1.
Dr. Wily has kidnapped Beat, Rush and Eddie. It's up to Mega Man and Roll to save them! In their way stand eight new fearsome Robot Masters: Sand Man, Art Man, Ombuds Man, Zombie Man, Missile Man, Mad Man, Sky Man and Brain Man.
The game is made in the style of the original Mega Man for NES. Because of this many of the newer features are not to be found in the game, such as Mega Man's slide and charge-up buster. There are no E-tanks either. This to preserve the challenge of the game instead of watering it out with features that do not add to the gameplay, and instead detract from it by making it too easy. A Password system has been implemented however.
Roll is a playable character. She has a dash similar to X's in Mega Man X, and she can have four buster shots on the screen at a time. Her downside though is that she will take one more damage from all attacks. After the Robot Master stages there are five Wily stages in the game.
