It is a good metroidvania. It has bug where you can end the game by jumping on ship (without ever entering caves). There's another bug in which eater plant can extend permanently if touched at wrong time. Happens with one plant in poisonous room with plants and turrets.
Ignoring those bugs, I can understand what to do and where to go. I'm not really sure about some upgrades. I understand about missiles, high jump and shield, but not ice beam. I can't find any place where it is essential.
Oh well, I'm going to play further. I have bone to pick with Ridley
