Not your best game.
The long and short of it is that the aiming sucked. You had to stay in constant motion to dodge bullets and line up your own shots, but the fact that both aiming and motion was done with the arrow keys meant that you could never do both at once. Cover felt more like an obstacle than a tool, as it just made it that much harder to shoot anything. The tiny delay before your character reached full speed made fine movements difficult, and this game revolved around fine movements. The fact that enemies always stopped and fired just offset from you only made this worse (although this might have been intentional, as this made it that much easier for the enemies to outflank you, which is kind of brilliant). Shotguns helped with the clunky controls, but only for a few shots each.
All that being said, the indievspewdiepie jam is not about games being played, it's about games being watched, and this would be perfect for that. The graphics are bright and fun, like the 8-bit sci-fi shooter that it is. There is always so much going on- new cops showing up, buttons being pressed and unpressed, timers running out, guns dropping, bullets flying- all of which which makes watching each heist a delight. The cash grab after each mission provides a nice breather between gunfights, both for the player and viewer. I would love to watch the Grumps or Pewdiepie rage their way through all of the frustrating controls and intense action that this game throws at you.
If someone asked me if I wanted to play this, I would say no. It has all of the aggravations that One Final Contract got rid of. If someone asked me if I wanted to watch them play it, though, I would say absolutely. Between the graphics, the big action, and their inevitable rage, it would make for an amazing Let's Play. And to top it all off, it was made in only 3 days.
This game is actually very fun to play! 5/5
Space Robbery is an arcade style game I made for the #indiesvspewdiepie game Jam.
You play a robber, boarding spacecraft, blowing them up, and grabbing what remaining cash is floating around. The firefights can get intense (for both you and your computer). I had a lot of fun, making it, and I hope you will enjoy playing it.
My high score is 9200. Let me know if you beat that....I'mma go to sleep now....So tired...
