A project I made for college last year but never made a big game for. A scrolling shoot-em-up style game. Use the enter key to confirm on the menu, then use the arrow keys to move, space bar to shoot, and esc to pause the game.

4 levels, each one being ~3 minutes long, following a colour scheme and with a boss at the end based off of one of the special enemies featured in that level.

There are 8 different enemy types, and a boss based off of 4 of them. There are also 4 Power-ups for the player.

The rest of the description down here is just gonna be details on those features and game mechanics, so don't read if you don't want to know/don't want to be 'spoiled':

These are descriptions of the 8 enemy types:

  1. Basics: They flying directly downwards, and if the player touches them, they lose a life. In later levels, basics begin to home in on the player.

  2. Shooters: They move slowly downwards, and occasionally fire bullets in the direction they are facing..

  3. Spinners: Much like basics, but these are circular-shaped and move in a zig-zag pattern, making them harder to shoot. The level 1 boss is based off of this enemy type.

  4. Shielders: These move slowly and have have a shield that sits in front of them, meaning the player have to use a few extra shots to destroy the shield before they can kill the shielder itself. Weapon power-ups can be used to shoot around the shield. The level 2 boss is based off of this enemy type.

  5. Parabolics: These move slightly onto the screen, then fire 2 shots from the left and right side of them. These shots quickly start moving in the opposite direction during their flight, and cross near where the playe ris likely to be situated.

  6. Jumpers: These enemies teleport onto the screen, and fire a shot at the player. After a quick cooldown time, they teleport again, and then fire another shot at the player. The level 3 boss is based off of this enemy type.

  7. Latchers: These enemies look liike Jumpers, but function much like shooters at first: They move slowly downward, and occasionally fire bullets downwards; However, when they reach the bottom of the screen, they turn around and sit at the bottom of the screen, firing upwards. They go away eventually, but the player can get rid of them quicker using the blast power-up.

  8. Railgunners: These enemies slowly move onto the screen, then sit at the top and fire a large blast line downwards. They can severely stunt the player's movements, create temporary kill-walls down the screen.

These are descriptions of the power-ups:
(A powerup spawns for every 5000 score you get, and you get an extra life every 10000 score you get. You lose any power-up when you die.)

  1. Extra life: Gives you an extra life, self-explanatory.

  2. Scattershot: The player now shoots 3 bullets instead of 1, in a small cone in front of them.

  3. Railgun: Your shoot a slow firing blast in a line directly upwards. This weapon can be bad against large groups of enemies, but is very good against shield enemies and bosses, as well as single liens of enemies.

  4. Blast: Instead of firing, the player creates a blast around them instead, essentially trading their weapon for a powerful close range attack. Like the railgun power-up, this power-up is very good against shields and bosses, but it can be dangerous to get up close when your weapon hasn't reacharged.

These are descriptions of the bosses, each one appearing at the end of their respective level:

  1. Spinner boss: A large, spinning ship. It has four guns that rotate around the edges of the ship that periodically fire shots at the player. The main part of the boss is invulnerable, so unless the player has a railgun power-up, they must shoot at the guns when they are at the side or front of the ship. For each gun that is destroyed, the boss starts spinner faster. Destroy all the guns to complete level 1!

  2. Shielder boss: This boss is a large ship that sits mostly off-screen, and has a generator at the front that you must destroy. The generator periodically creates shielder enemies to defend itself. For offense, the boss has two guns at both far ends of the ship, that the player can choose to destroy to make beating the boss easier. Watch out though, because those guns also have shields protecting them. Destroy the generator to complete level 2!

  3. Jumper boss: This boss function much like a normal jumper enemy, except much bigger and tougher. It also shoots more bullet than a regular jumper, and periodically spawns little jumpers and latchers to assist it. As the boss takes more and more damage, it gets faster and faster and fires more rapidly. Destroy the jumper boss to complete level 3!

  4. Railgun Boss: This boss is similar to the level 2 boss, however instead of a generator and two bullet guns, this ship is fitted with 3 railguns that aim at the player. The player must destroy them and the two spinner generators inbetween them. For every railgun that you destroy, the remaining railguns begin to shoot at a faster rate, so be careful! Also, basics will occasionally fly in and home in on the player, and they start coming in more rapidly as the fight progresses, too. Destroy the ship to complete the game!
