Upon searching old forums and blogs, you find what seems to be a port of Sonic the Hedgehog for Windows 98. Gameplay videos and devlogs showcase the game's code ported straight from the Genesis/Mega Drive, albeit with compressed or MIDI music.
Installing the file attached gives you a warning, stating that the software is "unsafe" and contains a keylogger. However, your computer's antivirus marks a ton of false positives, so you simply brush it off as another fake-out.
Nostalgia at it's finest, right at your fingertips.
