It's like Nineteen Eighty-Four, but with added jazz.
Really though, this was a wonderfully-executed Orwellian nightmare wherein you take on the role of an unnamed person who takes on the job of sifting through surveillance tapes on the hunt for suspicious discussions. It's up to you to decide whether the people in the recordings are guilty or not, although it's no real surprise what "they" want from you.
As the game progresses, new crumbs of story emerge until you have to make one big choice, which dictates how the game will end.
The whole experience is very claustrophobic and tense (even with the jazz!), and you really feel like every move you make could be seen as a mistake of some kind... and you just don't know what the punishment might be.
All in all a fantastic little game that deserves more attention!
I loved being thrown into the deep end at the start, not really knowing what was going on, which then makes unraveling the whole thing even more enjoyable. The transitions were really well done and the graphics in general were great!
One tiny little note, nothing to do with the game, you put Chris Jones in the credits for Adventure Creator but it's Chris Burton, Jones created Adventure Game Studio I believe.
I need to replay and see if I can get access to the Content Hub level 3! Curious to see what books and films you picked for that, it seemed an interesting selection.
Really liked the concept, the dialogues that keep the player guessing, and the art style. Especially with the wobbly animation and the hotspots lighting up on hover, both those things are so effective and I might copy you someday.
Another great effort, looking forward to your next project.
This game made me feel really and that's a good thing. I'm impressed by how much choice and consequence got worked into it without actually detracting from the dystopian lack of agency. Definitely want to go back and replay it to see what will happen with different choices.
Really an interesting game, I like the art and the story is intriguing and fresh. Great job! 👏
The Good: You just got that job you've wanted.
The Bad: You work in total isolation, spying on people.
Listen through and report suspicious tapes while playing cool jazz music, experiencing mysterious dream sequences and multiple storylines and endings.
