Nice socially commentary, I like it. The gameplay could be more complex, perhaps to trick the player into thinking they could win. Decent sound effects. A fun, quick play.
The challenge was to add a funny twist, not scathing commentary - you didn't take up my challenge at all. And that could have been funny as in your sense of humour atleast, even if I don't find it funny. But you instead decided to make something else entirely. It's not even like you failed the challenge, which would get a mote of honour for even trying - you can't fail something you didn't do at all to begin with.
In terms of your own game, it has a begining, middle, end and it has some uncertainty to gameplay (though I don't like 'survive as long as you can' games, myself...still a game though). It qualifies as a game and Society from above gave it a 4, even.
This post isn't going to make a lick of difference, so I'm tempted to write something scathing to wrap up. But that'd be pointless...
The challenge remains
Interesting, very interesting: minimalist game with deep meaning. Simple (yet accurate graphics), reasonable sound, but… Gameplay was actually about pressing Z, yet there are no limitation for constant fire. Common problem for mediocre scrolling games, yes, but here it just ruining whole (overall good) impression: just make something like overload gauge to add some more sense into controls.
The Art of Stellar War is a shoot 'em up with a far deeper meaning - developed as a response to the challenge issued by Callan S.
