The Remainder

If you forgot everything about your past, what you've, who you've known, where you’ve been, are you still you? Are you still responsible for the things you’ve done, even if you don’t remember them?

The Remainder is a mystery interactive novel set in a dark fantasy world, where you as the main character can make choices that affect your personality and the outcome of the story in interesting ways. You will encounter other characters who may become your friends, enemies, or romantic interests depending on your choices.

What you experience now is a result of your past, but what you do now dictates your future. Will you try to hold on to who you used to be, or try to become someone better?

"Winter, the burning, spherical body of Sruthru the Primordial Fish rises languidly above the northern horizon, then sinks back down, its feeble illumination hardly disturbing the twilight that will last three moons.

Fog dunes thick enough to grasp glide across the seamouth marshes, flylamps dance and mate within them, flitting stars in the throes of ecstasy, on the brink of death.

The Seas will have their Waters, as it will have all our Waters one day."

Experience a unique, bizarre world that draws from diverse inspirations such as gothic fiction, pagan mysticism, real-world occult practices, and folklore.

A world of ritual magick, pre-industrial technology, and a culture that marries ancient religions of the orient and occident.

The art of The Remainder has been crafted to resemble restored vintage manuscripts, having been intricately hand-drawn with pencil and ink, and then edited and animated digitally to bring them to life.

Organic sounds, ritual instruments, chanting, and digital synthesis are woven together to create a haunting atmosphere that enriches the mood of the story.

You’re a High Magus of the Ancient Order of Magi.

Groomed to become the magus of the age by parents from a magick lineage, your life had been an arrow aimed at the most elusive goal of magick–Sublimation–shedding of the flesh and blood body, freedom to roam the plane of spirits, immortality. The goal seemed within reach, but...

Something goes wrong. You wake up in your tower to the face of a stranger who calls themselves Ilar. You remember nothing, no spells, no incantations, not even your identity. Worse yet, you’re faced with imminent danger and have only your wits and Ilar’s help to rely on.

Will you be able to unravel the mystery of what happened? Will you regain your memories? Will you reach your goal?

Some routes of the story will involve romance, but some will not, your actions will decide the outcome.

Sexual orientation is not over-emphasized, narratively or visually, making it possible for you to picture yourself in the story without being restricted by overly specific gender characteristics.

Currently, there is only one visual design for the character that you will interact with–Ilar, which is the non-binary design. We plan to introduce slightly more masculine and feminine variations for Ilar in the next stages of development.

The visual design for the player character is in the works, we plan to offer several unique designs from which you can choose one to play the game with.
