Jamie thanks for letting me play your game. to add more ot the video i just want to say that maybe in the next game make the ending more dramatic or heart feltful. it seemed like the end is anticlimatic. https://youtu.be/_P3AVBslGWA
I really like your game! The wall jumping mechanics could do with a little tweaking though. Maybe you could have a timer so that when you come away from the wall there is a little bit of time where you can still jump, so that it is a bit easier if someone messes up slightly
As much as I want to, and this game has filled me with rage right now, I cannot complete the game. The game is hard and has a good story, I like it. It just, makes me feel like I'm playing a rage game. I really want to know the rest of the story, but I can't. Every time I play I encounter one glitch you should take note of. If the player is to land after jumping between a solid and non-solid brick, he will get stuck in between them. This is quite depressing yet rage inducing, good job!
I also would like to note that I've played two of the past comment posters (Dark and Santa) games, and I love to see the GameJolt community helping each other. You should try fixing that bug. Other then that I recommend adding some sort of customization maybe before the game starts or something as the resolution is a bit odd. Good luck.
Simple and linear platformer game. Not bad for starters :)
My suggestion is to just show death animation to character when he's shot, no need for quake nor crouching. It's more convincing that way. If you want, add fade out effect on death to make it more convincing ;)
Another suggestion is to tell players that character can bounce off wall with his jump. I won't know this if I didn't read people's comment here
Also, instead of button, just use invisible button to show dialogues. You want player to read the dialogues so don't give them chance to skip them ;)
And be consistent about entry and exit, I've seen some rooms with exit on left but after entering it, you start on left side on next room. I don't find that good, it's best for you to be consistent
I hope you can accept these suggestions and make your next games better :)
I liked the challenge of it all, though sadly, there wasn't much to the story. The wall jumping mechanics could have been better. I don't even really know how to explain it, it just seemed... fidgity lol. Also, at some parts when you're higher up on the screen, you are not able to see the text (it goes too far up). I would rather have the dialogue triggers be obtainable in areas where you are not in danger and don't have to rush. Often times, I would be trying to read the text, only to get killed by an arrow.
Overall, I did like it though, very good first game (I came here from your forum post lol), keep improving from this and I believe you will make some really great games.
Unfinished
I am creating a platformer in game maker with my own code, graphcs and music. I wanted this game to be 100% mines. It wont be an incredibly long game but I hope to highlight an idea I have through the story. I hope that you will play it and enjoy.
