Just got done playing the demo and lets just say I cant wait until the full release.
Hi! I tried this and just wanted to say it's looking very good! Engaging story and nice graphics, and the music you've selected enhances the atmosphere. I'll be looking forward to seeing the updates!
Super interesting style, keep it up!
“Vanessa” is a story-driven 2D puzzle adventure FNAF fangame. The narrative is focused on the early interactions between Vanny and Glitchtrap after the initial incident that brought them together. A troubled young woman, Vanessa begins to find that her perception of reality is slowly fracturing and, perhaps more worryingly, that there’s comfort and even purpose to be found in this new world of violence and madness that the comforting voice over the phone is inviting her into; that perhaps it’s not even so new for her in the first place.
This demo contains the opening chapters of the story, setting up the characters and ending at what could be considered the inciting incident of the narrative. It takes place in an alternate universe mostly unconnected to the current FNAF lore (so, no Mimic).
Features
-Point-and-Click puzzle gameplay crossed with a 2D side-scroller directly inspired by the game “Super Five Nights at Freddy’s”.
-An experimental psychological thriller narrative with a focus on mood and atmosphere over raw scares, influenced by a variety of horror and thriller media – games like “Cry of Fear”, “Hotline Miami”, “Echo VN”, “Night in the Woods” and the “Silent Hill” franchise; movies like Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” and Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”; the writings of Steven King and Alan Moore; and other works of art.
-A monochrome pixel-art visual style with unique animations for multiple interactions.
-An original soundtrack inspired by the ambient works of Richard D. James, Steve Roden, Hiroshi Yoshimura and David Firth as well as music from classic RPG Maker horror games.
-Detailed sound design.
-Estimated runtime of 30 minutes to an hour for the demo alone (the full game is planned to go on for at least 3-4 times as long).
Controls
Arrow Keys to move, Enter for interactions, Space to bring up the inventory, Escape to bring up the menu. The movement and interaction keys can also be changed to WASD and E in the options.
