187.5 and 24,300 - or, Second Performance Update!

Dear shipmates,

Stick in your mind these two measurements: 187.5 and 24,300. They are the measurements of our "large benchmark bar" model with the current implementation and parameters of the spring relaxation algorithm in Floating Sandbox 1.17.5: bending is 187.5, and CPU time per-frame is 24,300μs. These are neatly explained in the second post of our series, which you may find at https://gabrielegiuseppini.wordpress.com/2023/04/23/adventures-with-mass-spring-networks-part-ii/.

These numbers are the starting point of our quest to improve performance and rigidity of the simulator. As we experiment with different algorithms and optimizations, any bending measurement lower than 187.5 or any CPU time lower than 24,300μs will signify an improvement for the upcoming Floating Sandbox 1.18.0 update.

You may track our progress with these improvements by following our blog series. Keep on eye on these numbers!

Today I was setting up the location of the first boss. His name is "Father" and he is the first of the Patagonians. His task is to guard the road to the House.🛡🗡 Bookmark pre-launch page🔖🔖🔖
