22-01-2018: Potions

The next and maybe final step to achieving phase I is here and it’s potions! Potions will be a big mechanic of the game or how the french would say “big mechanic but in french” . Alright so, a potion is a point and by a point i mean two coordinates on a map. There are two maps stored in the game, a color map wich looks like this.

and an effect map. Potions can be throw or drunk making their effects different. Whenever you create a potion by putting water in a bottle, you give the potion the coordinates 0,0. Wich put it here and make it look like this:

but then let’s say you want to put spotchinkle dust inside of there. What will happen is that the spotchinkle dust has coordinates too wich are let’s say here.

So when you add the potchinkle dust to the potion wich is currrently a water bottle. The programm moves the point to here:

then it gives to the potion the closest effect it can find. but how does it determine that? well alongside creating a color map it creates an effect map wich is very hard to visualize but it just takes random potion effects from a bank and then puts them at random points on the map.

Here's a peaceful little forest scene for this #screenshotsaturday, from the beginning of the game.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

Why walk when you can jump?

Spaaaace~

These are background sprites I've created for a game I'm working on at school ^w^ Click on the post to see how the sprites connect. You won't regret it! (personally, I think it's pretty heheh)

Drawn in Piskel using my mouse. Whaddya think?

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!

I made a small jungle house.
