A Entirely Different Kind of Ship

Today’s game is Battleship. If you go back to the game Sky Warden (part 1 of the project) you will see parallels with today’s game; note, however, that both Sky Warden and today’s game are unfinished games. Mainly, what I was trying to accomplish with both of these games, was making a ship that controls quite differently from the ones commonly featured in most shooters (scrolling, arena, geometry wars, and the like).

The ship in today’s game is divided up into three parts: engine, bay with a side cannon, and a bridge. Using the mouse, you scroll through these three different parts, and use their different abilities using the space key: the engine will start and the ship will move forward, the cannon will fire, and the entire ship will rotate so as to align with the mouses position when you activate the bridge.

I was only able to add in one of these features todays, (shooting the cannon) movement and changing ship direction are handled either automatically or by pressing a key. I’m going to try making a ship like this tomorrow, but add in everything listed in the second paragraph; I’m getting a feeling that this is going to be a very difficult to control ship.

Lost Mage Today’s game is Lost Mage. You wander around as a lost mage, pick up articulate mage staffs, and notice vague references to previous games.

No More Shops! Today’s game is a, finally, working shop menu. You switch between buying and selling a very small collection of items, (potions, ethers, and somas) and because I had extra time, I was able to add some sounds.

Heartless I decided to leave out the sprite for jumping today. Instead, I focused my time on adding in two different weapons (a rifle and a rocket launcher), and some destrucible terrain.

Blue and Green Today’s game is rather difficult to explain. On one hand it is an arena shooter; on the other hand, it has small traces of yesterdays game in it. It can also be a one-player or two-player game. Anyway, heres a screenshot.

The Twenty-second Day

Terminal Today’s game is a point and click called Terminal. You explore the floating city of terminal from its warehouse to its hangars while learning about its inhabitants and how they treat you.

World Map 2 This is probably more a map of places than an actual world map. Anyway, the game is called Liabus; you scroll through the four places that occupy the land of liabus, and read a short description on each of them.

A Basic Platformer I’m taking back what I said yesterday, and am dedicating the rest of this week to making platformers. Today’s went very well. I was able to add in a shooting mechanic, destructible boxes, a life system, and an automatic door.

Fight! I was able to make a two player game today. Fight! has you commandeering either the red or green ship, and then blasting your foe to bits. Also, as of today, this project is twenty-percent complete.
