Today, I once again attempted to make a rogue-like of sorts. Really, the only thing I can think of that makes it a rogulike is the scrolling text bar on the bottom. However, I did learn something that should help with later games.
So as to avoid the games coming out looking like half-baked tech demos’, I have decided thats its best to start with the very basics (in this case, get the player moving and the darkness working) and slowly add stuff on from there. For example, yesterday, by the forty-five minute mark, I had pretty much finished the whole game; (red and blue fighting around you, the score bar, and the game instructions) however, I had left out this idea of having another enemy on each side. Now seeing that I had extra time, I was able to add it in without the possibily of not having the time to finish it.
The same happended today. I had the basics down (the movent, the text bar, the darkness) and then just started adding things. However, instead of adding more things to interact with (which took next to no time, and added a lot more to the game) I added in attacking which took up the rest of the time and doesn’t have any use.
