I’ve finished coding a new potion on my way to work this morning: the negation potion. It’s strongly inspired from brogue: it removes all effects and all magic (there’s only the latter effect in brogue) from the drinker. That’s to deal with the new spellcasters I’ve added recently. I’ve talked about the kobold wizard already, but I’ve added a second one: the chaos fairy; which is a support, flying monster. This fairy is gonna be quite annoying if you can’t deal with it, but this fancy new potion of negation is one way to do it.
I’ve also coded throwing of potions, so now you can throw your lovely potions at monsters. A potion has exactly the same effect when spilt on a creature than when you drink it. Not very realistic ? Well, yes, but makes gameplay easy to understand. So far it’s not really a good idea to throw potions at enemies (except for negation), because hey, you don’t want to heal or infuriate an enemy. But when Dungeon Mercenary will feature allies, it’ll make sense !
Also, I’ve changed the look’n’feel of the throwing mode (displayed in the only video in the banner above) so that it shows you the affected cells. So when you throw a potion at a monster, it also shows the adjacent monsters, as they’ll be affected too. When you throw a dynamite bomb, it shows the walls and doors that’ll get destroyed. Pretty handy I believe ! (video coming soon).
