“Traveling through hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star, or bounce too close to a supernova and that’d end your trip real quick, wouldn’t it.” (Han Solo)
With this new update, Biverse has a brand new functionality - hyperjumps! For now still unlimited in use (don’t worry - fuel constraints are coming next…), the hyperjump isn’t, however, just your typical “click on a solar system and go there” thing. Instead, I wanted to give you the feel of having to make those calculations - what are the best hyper-routes? Will a trip require more than one stop?
The gist of it is simple enough. To hyperjump go to the map (key M) while you’re in space (it won’t work if you’re landed on a planet) and then press J to enter planning mode. Then move your mouse around to control your jumping vector. If space was empty, your starship would fly right towards the mouse cursor - but space ain’t empty! You’ll see your jump route delimited by two lines - because the drive isn’t the most precise thing ever. These lines are bent by the gravity of nearby stars! So beware, pass too close to a solar system and they’ll just diverge one from each other making your jump land into a random area of a few light years of diameter (give or take). Or you could be clever and use the gravity of the stars to actually FOCUS your jump route, and land much more precisely than your drive alone would allow. It’s up to you and your skill.
Jump away, and wait for next time, when Biverse is going to be populated with its first dangers - and the very real possibility of getting blown up!
