CHARACTER HIGHLIGHT: The Rat Scientist

Well, I do believe we're well overdue for another Character Highlight! This time around, we're focusing on the first Monster you must face in the game - the devious doctor, the Rat Scientist!

Bio

When the Siren Toxin broke loose, Dr. R. T. Poyson dedicated himself to finding a cure. One day, when treating a patient who had been heavily infected with the toxin, Dr. Poyson was scratched deeply on the arm by said patient when they fell into a rabid trance. He activated the emergency alarm, heading home to scramble through his documents as the toxin began to set in. By then, however, it was too late. At his house, he mutated, turning into a Monster in front of his wife and children. Then, using the data he'd stored to find a cure for the Siren Toxin, he created an inverse serum that only made the most potent effects of the toxin even stronger. That night, 4 newly mutated creatures emerged from his home, spreading the Siren Toxin throughout their city, and indirectly, through the whole world.

Gameplay Mechanics

Special Ability: Siren Serum

Using his inversed serum derived from the Siren Toxin cure information, the Rat Scientist injects Remnants with a deadly poison that will kill and mutate them if they do not find the antidote. While a Remnant is in the Rat Scientist's Grasp, he can inject the Siren Serum into them. When a Remnant is infected, their surroundings will become hazy and disorienting, and they will not be able to perform objectives or help teammates in any way. The Rat Scientist and other Remnants can also not interact with the infected one. To remove the infection, a character must find one of two antidotes hidden in the area. If they do not find it within 90 seconds, the Remnant will die instantly, and a new creature will mutate in their stead, replacing their corpse with a stationary Monster that will damage passing teammates. The Rat Scientist has a limited amount of Serum to use, but he can replenish it with the following ability...

Environment Ability: Blood Donation

When the Rat Scientist has a Remnant in their Grasp, they may choose to throw or place said Remnant onto one of many operating tables in the stage. Remnants placed on these tables will lose health slowly overtime, killing them instantly when they reach 0. For every 30 seconds of health lost, the Rat Scientist gains another Siren Serum to use on other Remnants. Remnants must be rescued from these tables only by other Remnants, as they can not save themselves. The health drain pauses while the Rat Scientist is nearby.

Personal Traits

  • Crazed Eagerness: For every Remnant at full health, the Rat Scientist gains a movement speed boost, BUT... he also takes longer to recover from successful attacks from the same requirement.

  • Madness: While pursuing a Remnant, their vision range is considerably reduced, BUT... the Rat Scientist's own vision range has a small yet permanent reduction.

  • Psychopathy: The Rat Scientist recovers from successful attacks more quickly, and receives a temporary speed boost after killing a Remnant, BUT... he recovers more slowly from failed attacks, and Remnants have more time to interrupt him while he is trying to perform a kill.

  • Obsessive Curiosity: Remnants hiding in Environmental Hiding Spots that have taken a decent amount of damage will be revealed to the Rat Scientist, BUT... the movement effects of Remnants trying to escape his Grasp is increased.

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.
