Since our console launch, we have received a lot of love and support from our community, as well as some interesting questions. We have collected the most common ones – along with answers to them – in this post. Hopefully, players looking for something can find it here.
Q: What kind of game is this exactly?
In short, Vagrus is a strategy role-playing game set in a dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic world. It has turn-based exploration on a large world map, turn-based combat, resource management, RPG companions and character progression, as well as a lot of narrative delivered mostly through written text. You can probably skip that, but in order to enjoy the stories and the world, you would probably have to read a lot.
Q: What did you implement to make the game easier to play on consoles? In what way is the console version different from the PC version?
Since Vagrus has a gigantic narrative in written form, we included a seamless zoom-in feature, font size selection, and made the text block size customizable to allow for a better reading experience. You can read more about the details in our previous post.
Q: Can I get the whole package on consoles (main game and DLCs included)?
Yes. The Praetor Edition contains everything released so far, and the confirmed future DLC At The Heart of Ruin will be available with the Season Pass (as well as separately).
Q: Will the upcoming DLC be available on consoles at the same time it releases on PC?
We will have to be mindful of the complexity of console publishing, but we will do our best!
Q: Why is this game so hard? What was the thought process behind it?
Vagrus is set in a cruel, dark, inhospitable fantasy world that never really recovered from a magical cataclysm and is now ruled over by despots and damned creatures. To match the setting and enhance immersion, we set a higher difficulty.
Q: Does this game have difficulty settings? I’ve heard it’s really hard.
When starting your campaign in Vagrus, you can select between Wasteland Mode and Dissonance Mode. Wasteland Mode is how the difficulty was intended by the developers - it's a harsh, unforgiving experience, so if you pick it, save often and expect a few death spirals! Dissonance Mode is more forgiving in all aspects of gameplay (combat, trade, exploration, resource management, etc.) and offers a smoother learning curve. If you are looking for a less stressful experience, we recommend Dissonance Mode (though note that it’s no walk in the park, either). Additionally, players are unable to unlock achievements in Dissonance Mode.
Q: I’m on the fence about buying this game – I like some things I see but other aspects make me weary.
It’s completely understandable – Vagrus is a niche game and on consoles it’s an even rarer phenomenon. Luckily, there is a free Demo you can check out, which should be more than enough to get a general gist about what kind of a game it is. Note that in some regions, Demos are not allowed due to legal reasons, so ours isn’t available there, either.
Q: Is the game going to be available in more languages?
Vagrus is a game with an over 2 million word count. Localizing it to any language is unfortunately way beyond the capabilities and resources of Lost Pilgrims and so we have never committed to such a path. However, we provided machine translation for several languages (their quality varies greatly) in the hopes that they might become the bases for fan translations. Some of these have been tweaked and improved by our community, but they are not comprehensive.
Vagrus is now available for purchase on consoles, such as PS4 and PS5, Xbox and NintendoSwitch as well as the regional Nintendo store pages.
