Dark Cell: Remastered - Dev diary #4

Greetings,

I have been very busy last few days working on adding features I mentioned in previous devlogs. Lots of changes have been made to the core game and some existing features were changed to make them more appealing.

On the other side, I’d like to apologise for not releasing a trailer as I said I would, but this is only because I dedicated more time to finishing the Remastered version as soon as possible. Here is some stuff I’m currently working on.

  • First of all, I finished making puzzle hints. Almost every puzzle now has a hint in form of message that shows up above the player’s head. Also, several puzzles got tweaked and are now easier to figure out.

  • There are dozens of new objects all over the prison to make levels look more…prison-ish.

  • There are several new cutscenes at the start and during the game. I think this is way cooler than just slap a bunch of text on-screen and leave the player clueless about the story.

  • Monsters got revamped in terms of looks and AI behaviour. Players will now have to be more careful around them.

The new version is about 2/3 done. The game already includes lots of new features and changes but there is still a significant portion of work left to be done. Also, there will be another new addition: secret rooms. As the player progresses through the game, he will sometimes encounter a note that holds a certain clue. This clue represents a hidden puzzle. Once a special message pops up, the secret puzzle will trigger and the player will have to solve it if he wants to gain access to a secret room in that level. More info on that next week.

This Halloween... Greetings, besides college and working on ‘Dark Cell: Remastered’ there is another project I’m cooking up. Here is a quick teaser :)

Dark Cell: Remastered - Dev diary #2

We made a lot of improvements on the Freezing Plains visual. Things like pine trees, tiny bushes, some rocks, and others game props!

Runestones: from concept to in-game model🗿

I have added rewards for quests so that villagers can give you something in return for your hard work helping them. 🥳

I want to know - what's your favourite quest reward?

Updated the chest in the maze, adding sound, particles and better animation. But what's in the chest?

Just a Pico sprite

So here's the first of the zodiac signs i will make for the next weeks.
