Day 130

Day 130: Today I went out to buy fresh bread for lunch. It was a good decision. The bread was still warm, and as expected was delicious. Some stereotypes are true. French people really have something going on with bread. It’s just tastes so damn good!

Daily interesting stuff:

  • New Github tool for Unity. It looks cool.

  • Article, “Are video games political?”. I don’t usually really care for the debate whenever games should be political or not. After all you choose with your wallet. But this article was the best article I read in while. It had a verry well constructed arguments based on logic and facts. Really refreshing.

Tasks done:

  • Did some fixes on my room save tool. It’s the tool that enables me to save the enemies in the rooms in a ways that bypasses the nested prefab problem. It’s not a really complicated tool but it does its job well. But when using it in a real situation (hear make a lot of enemies configurations), it showed some shortcomings. Enemies were destroyed when I didn’t want and sometimes were instantiated twice… It was a bit weird to fix since all the behaviour were interconnected. I fixed one problem and suddenly another part of the process is broken. I mostly ended up putting safe guards. Now, it’s not perfect, but It doesn’t bothers me while I’m creating stuff anymore. Which was the goals with this tool, so I guess it’s ok. The only thing that I couldn’t fix is that sometimes (at random) the debug bool of the room is set to false when playing the game. This is frustrating. Especially since this bool is not set anywhere in my code but Unity changes it by itself. I think it’s a serialization problem. But it’s not that big of a deal, so I didn’t spent too much time trying to fix this.

  • Did the enemies configurations of 25 rooms. That’s not a lot considering that I aim to have 325 rooms in the game (175 are unique, the rest is reused). It turns out that putting enemies in the rooms is as boring as making the rooms was… At first it took around 5min by room, but after a time I stopped testing each configuration. I just put stuff and assume it’s ok. Oh and I’m making the game waaaay harder. There’s enemies everywhere trying to kill you. By my estimations I should be able to reach 325 rooms before the deadline. That is if I can concentrate on working on it more than 15 minutes straight. Oh and also I need to put the reused rooms in the different zone, and assign them the right material. Yay, more content work to do for at least a week…

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.

I mostly build 3D First Person Shooter game mechanics in Unity, and in this I'm just showing C4 mechanics I made for a little side project I am working on! :)

OK, this starts to be too tricky puzzle already :D
