Devlog 1/11/22: Week One

So, its been roughly a week since development started on the game. Here's what I've gotten done since then.

  • Fleshed out the shop items

From top to bottom, the items are: Water Cup, Fertilizer, Water Bucket, Grow Light, Watering Can, Solar Panel, and Sprinkler. All a little goofy, I know.

  • Added more plants

From left to right, the plants are: Grass, Clover, Dandelion, Ivy, Fern, Daisy, Marigold, Peony and Milkweed. That's a grand total of 9 out of 25 unique plants drawn and coded into the game.

Oh, and that area they're stored in is the Greenhouse, a sort of collection for the plants you grow. They serve as the primary means of visual progression, as opposed to just clicking shop items to make numbers go up.

  • Gamejolt trophies

I think writing trophy names is funny so I made a couple (81 right now, want a lot in the final release) trophies for the game. In practice, upon starting Garden Clicker you do a one-time Gamejolt account API connect so you can earn achievements while you play.

I am a big fan of achievement collecting so I wanted to have a wide variety that rewards a lot of different actions (Collecting multiples of shop items, money making milestones, growing plants, etc.)

    What's next

    • Add more plants lol

    • Make the graphics look less janky and tacked together w/ new backgrounds, UI, etc.

    • Upgrade system; as opposed to shop items, they are one time purchases to boost your Sun per second and per click -- also unique sprites and graphics for them.

    • Cleaning up number system, the arithmetic is not optimized and lags out after running for too long, also add in commas and suffixes for million, billion, etc.
