DEVLOG#3 - LevelUp!

Our focus for the week was to build some tutorial levels. However, there's been much less building and more head scratching than we'd like to admit. Despite this we thought we'd share a few screenshots as we test different level sizes.

HI FROM AF'BROS GAMES

As we turned our focus to expanding our game we thought level design would be the easy part .... Oh how wrong we were .

It wasn't long before we found that our existing method for creating levels, used during the United Game Jam, was extremely inefficient. "But AF'BROS, your only placing blocks in a grid. What's so slow about that". Well, I don't know how we did it but we did it alright! We somehow manged to make building simple, block based levels the slowest and most inefficient process known to man. Really it's quite impressive how bad our method for building levels was

As we slowly lost our minds something had to change! Therefore we recently turned our focus making things more efficient to improve development in long run and hopefully kick things into level building overdrive.

Several changes, such as switching over to Unity's tilemap system, have been an absolute game changer and have allowed us to create and test ideas at a much faster rate. With this improved system we've also been able to experiment with level structure and have been busy testing a variety of level sizes. Larger levels should allow for much more variety compared to the small, screen sized levels we created for the United Game Jam,

We still have a long way to go but with we're now able to focus on level design and progression, starting with some tutorial levels to introduce the basic mechanics of the game. Once we've made sufficient progress we will consider posting a demo build to allow people to test and give feedback on our level ideas.

Keep an eye on the devlog for further updates and news!

ALL THE BEST
