(Devlog Lucky #7!!) A Quick Description

Hello everyone! Phoenix Rising here. So, to start, just a quick shoutout to our friend Luke’s game- Greentale, which is the story of the 3rd fallen human. Link below.
Before we start, since I know you aren’t gonna read the whole devlog, just wanna nudge the description’s existence. I will try to change it weekly, so check it often. You will know when it has changed, because of some letter capitalization or something. And the quotes at the very bottom. That too. Anyway, onward to the next topic!
Next, we have the demo and full game itself. We know you guys are waiting for more OST songs, more areas, more sprites…. And we understand! The hype is real! We are going under a lot of changes right now (besides puberty), because the plot is constantly changing, the songs constantly being redone, and sprites being fixed. So stay tuned for more! As for the demo, we still don’t have a set day for release, and I don’t want to set a month either, although I would if I would. But here is an inside-ish look into the world of good game producing.
The plot. The plot includes character text, backstory, everything that has to do with actions or words. This is the backbone for the OST, the designs, everything. A small change in a personality would mean a BIG change in many other categories, because songs have to fit the mood, in fact, they MAKE the mood in a sense. The plot determines how characters act, what characters do, what they say, everything. And since it is like this, you can understand how bad a late-game change would be. Thankfully, we are just focusing on the demo for now.
Since we are talking about music, let’s do the OST next. Music is also important in the game. Like I said before, it sets the mood, but the most important thing is making sure the song is timed right. You know, making sure the song plays through all the way and ends at the end of the intro, etc. Timing, making sure it sounds good, work oh my! Music creation definitely isn’t easy.
Spriting. You have to have it juuussst right. Pixel by pixel. Any person who draws in general has skill. You have to make sure, pixel by pixel, stroke by stroke, that the image looks visually pleasing. Not much more to say. All art is hard.
Finally, CODING. Coding puts everything together. The music, the sprites, everything. It all comes together into that one .exe file you load. Our coders, Shadow and Spoopy, use Game Maker Pro, where they code the game in javascript and python. And coding ain’t no easy joyride. You have to remember to open and close every piece of script, set speeds, program the bullets, and everything else you can think of.
So, when you play Undertale again, or Skyrim, or whatever, remember how long it took for these people to make those areas, program that dragon’s flight, create that battle theme, and insert that epic plot twist. Oops, I just turned this into an essay.
Anyway, the point is, we are steamrolling along, and we aren’t stopping! So, check often, give our 2 coders some love, and stay determined optimistic!!

Side Note: As for actual updates, we have a few ruins rooms done…..

There Was Never Only One

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

I mostly build 3D First Person Shooter game mechanics in Unity, and in this I'm just showing C4 mechanics I made for a little side project I am working on! :)

Only true badasses may pass! #conceptart #art #gamedesign

blender animation experimentation, getting the hang of things fast. arms, rig, & gun models by me ofc

Here's a Fredbear sprite i made in Aseprite! I'm pretty proud of this!

(Btw, sorry for the double post! I'll try to post less)
