SUMMARY
Now that I have gotten better programing knowledge and a good understanding of Godot 4, I have been back working on the project for the past month and gotten tremendous amounts of progress finished! And, as already mentioned by the title of this post, I'm going to release a tech demo for everyone to play!
TECH DEMO INFORMATION
Here's what's been finished for this Tech Demo so far:
Basic AI navigation and behaviors are about 100% complete
Somewhat finished Main Menu Screen
Working Pause menu
Reworked player controls and collision from an older version
Player View Model About Finished (Unless I decide to add something else)
Map tiles and textures
I can't reveal too much details on gameplay as I don't want to spoil what goes on, but I may post a few screenshots and maybe a trailer for the tech demo if I get the time to do so. For when it will be released, I'm unsure as I'm gonna be focused on college for the next three months 'till the end of the term. But, if I had to estimate, it would likely be out somewhere near or at the start of the new year.
CURRENT CHALLANGES
One of the biggest challenges right now is making the game accessible to many people as possible. Though I notice the performance of the game benefits greatly from the low-poly aesthetic, I'm unsure how the SDFGI or screen space reflections will perform on slower hardware. To combat this, I plan on implementing a settings menu that can be accessed mid-game, allowing players to switch on and off desired settings such as effect quality, framerate, and other options for people with not-so-strong (or strong) computers.
PROGRESS ON OTHER PROJECTS
For those wondering about the short film, I decided to hold it until after the tech demo it complete as I have a lot going on in the next few months. Because of this, I may look for people to help finish the film later down the line, though it may depend on how things go.
For Dead-Eye Willy Heritage, I've mostly been switching back and forth between the two projects. Currently, I'm getting the dialogue system worked out and I plan to work on level concepts next month.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
Right now, I need to get started on getting the levels and sound effects completed, with some other stuff I can't mention (yet). Other than that, I guess you'll have to wait until I get some more progress done :)
