Warning! this post is very long as it discusses a TON of things that I just felt the need to talk of so just know that!
So starting off, recapping what's in here, * new enemies have been added!
The Outlaw; ...The name speaks for itself, it's a spaghetti western outlaw.
(The sprite was inspired by Starlo's battle sprite in Undertale Yellow.)
Panfur; A black cat controlling a German Panther.
(thx to chatgpt for the cat tank pun. the idea for the enemy came from when i was playing War Thunder.)
Lumin NXS (Nexus); A robot model designed to be helpful gone rouge. (the design idea came from the SWORDSMACHINE in ULTRAKILL.)
Forest Golem; A golem you will fight in a side quest. That is all I will say.
Now, this is tad different but I wanna talk about some things that I'm doing to help with Lucid.
Firstly, there's a saying in story-telling I learned recently.
"Kill your darlings."
What does that mean? Well, it means if you have something that you really like that is taking away from whatever you are trying to make, (a book, game, comic, etc.) you should get rid of it. DESPITE it being your darling. So, what are some "Darlings" in Lucid that I am going to be "Killing"?
The current final boss theme, Scatterbrained. I LOVE this song and it might be one of my favorites in the entire game BUT it isn't really fitting the vibes i want it to give off.
I'm not joking, go listen to it right now and tell me it sounds like a final boss theme. You can't. So, I'll be remaking it to have a more similar vibe to the boss theme "All A Lie" in @LUKELCS 's game, GUIDANCE. (go play it. it's super fun.)
I won't stealing the theme but I do want to make a more intimidating song. Also, the og version of the song will still hopefully be somewhere in game but finding a suitable spot will be hard.
Oh hey, for this next one I need to something I have been hiding ever since the games reveal!
THE MAIN CAST
Yep! At long last, CHARACTER REVEALS!!!!!! Here ya go!
Jacob
Jacob is the star of the show, he’s the perfect mix of geek and dingus. No matter where he goes, he’s got his friends on his side to back him up whether it’s a school food fight or gang war in the park. Although he’s really bad with girls and making new friends. He’ll most likely stay in his circle and not branch out. But when he’s lucid dreaming he becomes super confident since he controls the world around him. He’ll hang out either at home or wherever his friends are.
Jeremey
Jeremey has been Jacob's best friend since 2nd grade. They've been through thick and thin together, never leaving each other's side. He’s more into girls and pottery since his grandpa taught him pottery and it’s how they bond together. And he’s more the level-headed one even with his girl obsession always thinking things through before doing anything that could put him at risk. He’ll hang out either at his grandpa’s pottery shop or at the park.
Ava
Ava is the girl of the gang. She’s a loose cannon and you never know how she’s gonna be in the morning, one day she’ll be ready to take on the world and the next she’ll be an emo wreck. But when you hang out with Ada you know you’re in for a wild ride. Ava also has a huge crush on Jacob. She’ll hang out at the highest trail at Mount Topaz. She’s also coping with the loss of her younger brother, Sammy.
Arthur
Arthur is a full-fledged nerd and idiot. He’s always the one being bullied and picked on. And he’s kind of a loser to everyone, except his friends. He’ll normally hang out at the library reading books and studying for tests.
(no nine, he is not named after you. keep dreaming.)
AT LONG LAST I'VE EXPOSED IT ALL.
(though i don't know why i didn't reveal these goobers sooner )
Back to the whole kill your darlings thing; my second "darling" was the idea of more in depth story arcs for each character when I was hoping for this game to be a lot longer. One of which was going to be Jeremey's grandpa dying.
Yeah.
But, now that the games scope has been drawn back juuuust a smidge, Jeremey's arc will be replaced by Jacob's, Ava's, and Callie's. As these arcs are the main story of the game. Who is Callie?
NONE YA BUISNESS. YOU'LL FIND OUT SOON ENOUGH.
Next up on the talking block, trailers!
So, trailers. What do we have? Well, we have THE BROADCAST coming up which
IS NOT THE NEXT TEASER TRAILER. It is a kinda-date reveal for the next teaser trailer. And that trailer will reveal more about the villain.
Also, for your own convenience; here's a chart on my planning doc for Lucid showing more info!
Now there are notes for these but that's my personal business and NOBODY ELSES.
Now, to talk about something is just a rule of thumb in game dev I learned from a @PirateSoftware short on YouTube.
This chart.
How this chart works is let's take for example, the Panfur;
The Panfur has high defense and damage. Meaning that it's weakness is speed. When making any enemy for any game, follow this chart. You can only pick two stats to have that are good because the enemy needs a weak point.
Another good example is a goblin-like enemy. It would have high damage and speed with low defense.
Oh yeah, I am happy to say that ALMOST THE ENTIRE GAME IS PLANNED OUT! All major story beats, bosses, areas, EVERYTHING!
And lastly, very off topic but after making a trailer for @Theguestcreator 's "Enter The Guestaverse", and receiving the feedback I did, i decided I'll do game trailers for those who ask! Mainly RM devs but since I am a part of @TheLinguini 's studio as a music and sound designer, I'll most likely be making a trailer for his game; "The Underwalk" at some point!
And, that's about all I have to show you! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
See Ya Soon!
