Hey there!
So first of all, let me introduce myself really quickly. I'm Jayfer, but you can call me Jay. I've been following PI for 1 year and a few months now, and after making countless fan arts about the game and even becoming a close friend of ddemkoo, I became a part of the beta tester group.
First thing first, I want to address something important. As some of you might know it, one of the beta testers (who was also a voice actor for the game) left the team for a reason that won't be discussed for privacy reasons. However, that person seems to have a lot of fun telling other people how bad PI is and that everyone will be disappointed once it comes out.
Let me get this straight, you don’t have to listen to that person. After checking the “beta testers feedback” documents, I can assure you that they enjoyed the game like all the other beta testers. Apart from a few nit picks, their feedback was really positive on all the builds. Of course if this was all there was to the story, it wouldn’t be worth bringing it up. HOWEVER, that person actually leaked several beta files to some Discord users, we don’t know how many, but it has been confirmed it happened. This message is mainly targeted to those who saw or played one of the beta files; some of these are still unfinished or unpolished and still need some work, it doesn’t represent what the final game will look like, therefore you shouldn’t base your opinion of the game on these files. Beta files aren’t meant to be played by regular players, that’s why only beta testers should have access to those. And as to the leaker, if the situation doesn’t get better, we’ll take action.
Now that this is out of the way, I’d like to give a quick feedback on the game, or at least on the few files I have tested so far.
At first, I was thinking the same thing that a lot of people might think when seeing the trailer for the first time; “Graphics over gameplay”. I’d like to say that playing the game isn’t the same as watching a highly edited and out of context part of it. As a matter of fact, I haven’t played the main shift yet, right now the beta testing process is focused on smaller parts of the games that will support the main night. The two I have tested so far are really different from each other, one of them is somewhat similar to what you can find in other fangames in terms of gameplay (although it has some twists that makes it more challenging). However the other build I’ve tested is far more unique. One of the key elements of that phase is something that I’ve never seen in a fangame before, it really pushes the limit of the Clickteam fusion engine for some parts. The game still has some elements that need to be fixed, but hey: that’s why beta testers are here, and trust me, we’re testing the heck out of this game. The stuff I’ve tested so far really made me excited to see more, and I’ll definitely harass Ddemkoo until he lets me test the more stuff.
I know that waiting 3 years for a fangame to come out might be frustrating. Like I said earlier, the main focus right now are the smaller parts of the game (which is basically additional content to extend the playtime), that's because the main shift is finished (apart from a few glitches that need to be fixed and maybe some more polishing). The game's progress is going the right way and it's really satisfying to see the game coming together.
Well, that's it for this beta tester log. I hope this cleared up a few things for you all and reassured the more skeptical fans.
