An ancient concept I came up with back in 18x–19x when I was around 16 (and yes, I was into zombie/post-apocalypse stuff and RPG Maker even then — nothing has changed).
The year is 2071. A cure was invented in the US around 30 years ago to fight off a hybrid disease — a terrifying blend of smallpox, bubonic plague, and cordyceps. (Yes, I know, the cringe is real.)
Instead of distributing the cure, the government decided it was easier to just wipe out the infected population and burn their bodies to “stop the spread” — erasing the virus along with the evidence.
In response, other world governments launched nuclear strikes on the US to protect their citizens. But... surprise! The Dead Hand system activated — and America nuked everyone in return.
One big oops.
730 years later, nature has bounced back, and what’s left of humanity has reverted to a medieval-like civilization. Thanks to generations of mutation caused by the virus, people have now developed strange magical abilities.
Please don’t take this plot too seriously — I sure didn’t.
