> What Happened? <
For all followers who are present on our Discord server, you may already know UltraGearGames has been on its second-ever indefinite break.
Sumo Cars 2 was last updated at the beginning of September 2022. Since then, development was slowly crawling until roughly the beginning of 2023, when it entirely halted.
As for the reason all of this happened - personal real-life issues, a few helping hands which were assisting development disappearing, and similarly to how it has happened many times before, a severe lack of motivation.
> Why not simply continue? <
After a while, getting back to working on something as complex and challenging on the mind as a videogame (or any other advanced piece of software) is difficult;
It is easy to forget what things serve what purpose, why a function was designed a certain way, and why the game logic works the completely wrong way around than you'd expect it to.
Simply put, you get out of the flow. In our case, the gaps between even opening the project were sometimes two weeks, or even more.
Essentially, it is near impossible to return to normal development by this point. The "momentum" of progress has been entirely lost.
> What is the plan? <
Sumo Cars 2 will be discontinued for the reasons stated earlier.
It was however a very good learning experience, currently standing as our longest actively-developed project to date, and the best work we've ever put out so far all things considered.
As for the future of UltraGearGames as a studio, we are unfortunately unable to say or predict much about that.
For the foreseeable future, we will be re-evaluating what we want to do with the company, and our development process, planning what potential games to bring to you awesome people in the future.
Final Release
We are releasing one final bite-sized update, Experimental 0.3.4, as a substitute for the originally worked on Alpha 0.4.0.
It contains a few features and improvements that have been added before the loss of flow, improving the overall experience. It is not however guaranteed to be fully bug-free.
> Final word <
We'd like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who helped, contributed, supported, played, or otherwise encouraged the development of Sumo Cars 2, allowing it to get to where it stands today.
We hope to get back up again soon and continue our nearly five-year game development journey onwards, along with you!
Thank you for your time. Take care! 👋
