PRICKLz REDASHED is moving along steadily, and I think I may have gotten to the point where I can start officially looking for a small crew to help carry this momentum to the finish line. The engine is running flawlessly, most ideas are set, but to get this game rolling faster and looking as sharp as possible, some extra hands are needed.
>> WHO WE NEED <<
Classic Skins Artist (1 position): Someone who can perfectly replicate my old 2024 art style for special bonus skins.
Why I can't do it myself: Honestly, my current workflow and art style have evolved too much. I've spent so much time training myself on the new look that whenever I try to draw the old way, it just doesn't look right or authentic anymore. I need someone who can study the original assets and capture that charm.
Plus, I am a bit displeased with how Reopened and Reshined used their respective Classic Skins (where it was literally just scaled, copy-pasted assets).
Additional UI Artist (1-2 positions): This ranges from designing small icons all the way up to in-game thumbnails.
Additional Artist (1-2 positions): General 2D asset creation to help take some of the weight off my shoulders so I can focus purely on core engine logic and coding.
Animation artist (1 position): Someone who can focus entirely on creating a specific animation for a certain part of the game (frame-by-frame animation).
Composer (Nice to have!): Looking for someone who can craft a distinct atmosphere. Finding a good musician in the community is tough, but if you can make original tracks that build real tension and energy using the YM2612 sound font (the same used on the Sega Genesis), then we want you on the team.
>> GENERAL RULES <<
Must be 13–14+ (For maturity and basic communication skills).
Tracing art, stealing assets, or using Generative AI is strictly forbidden. I will be asking for screenshots of your progress (layers, raw files, or rough sketches). If you are caught plagiarizing, tracing, using uncredited work, or passing off AI-generated images as your own work, you will be booted off immediately.
Discord is highly preferred for this project since it's way easier to organize channels and share files there. However, if you don't have one, I don't mind using Game Jolt chat, but you need to be reliable at checking your messages.
Accept Constructive Feedback: Seems unusual to be listing something like this, but believe me, I've had a lot of first-hand experience with some teams disbanding due to this. If an asset doesn't fit the specific atmosphere or scaling of the game, I will ask you to tweak it. Don't take it personally; we are all working together to make the final product look as cohesive and polished as possible.
Do not leak anything. You will be seeing unreleased characters, mechanics, and lore charts. If you leak dev build screenshots, teasers, or secrets to your friends or public servers, you're out.
Don't start or bring drama into the team. We’re here to make a cool game, not deal with internet beef. Keep the workspace chill and respectful.
Be honest about your workload. If you get busy with school or personal life, just tell me. It's totally fine to take a break, but don't promise an asset by Friday if you haven't even started it.
>> HOW TO APPLY <<
If you think you fit one of these roles, drop a comment below with your portfolio, Discord username, or shoot me a direct DM with your work.
To make sure our workflows and technical styles actually mesh, here are the specific tests for each position:
Classic Skins Artist Test: I will provide you with images of two classic skins. Your task is to completely recreate them from scratch.
The Catch: It must be done entirely without tracing or any Generative AI tools (Only use the image below as a reference; plus, you will have to additionally post progress images), and you MUST use a brush that does not have Anti-Aliasing. The current style I'm going for needs those clean, sharp edges to match the original era.
You don't have to do all of these references; but it will boost your chances of being picked. Just saying :p

Additional UI Artist Test: No formal test required for this one. Just send over examples of menus, buttons, or layouts you’ve done before. The main rule here is simple: don't overcomplicate stuff. Clean, functional, and well-scaled is the goal.
Additional Artist Test: For this, you need to show that you can somehow accurately replicate my current art style. Just like the classic skins test, you need to avoid using Anti-Aliasing brushes. Everything needs to look sharp and cohesive with the current engine assets.

I mainly have sketches, which makes things ten times funnier.

Animator Test: Show me what you can do by creating a simple character animation. It doesn't need to be a massive cinematic scene, just a few seconds worth of movement (like a loop, a transition, or a quick motion) so I can see your sense of timing and weight.
Composer Test: Pretty self-explanatory. Send over your portfolio of previous tracks, or send a quick test track so I know you can hit that exact authentic, gritty throwback sound design.
The Catch: Keep in mind that it has to specifically use YM2612 instruments/sound chips (or something akin to it). No AI-generated audio or stem-splitting engines allowed.
>> CLOSING THOUGHTS <<
At the end of the day, this is a massive passion project for me. The game is going to get finished eventually, but bringing on a few dedicated people means progress can get out faster and make it hit the technical and visual heights it's capable of.
If you’ve been following the page and want to actually help shape this thing from behind the scenes, I’d love to see what you can do. Huge shoutout to everyone for the crazy amount of support; seeing people gather and be intrigued over the smaller details keeps the motivation locked in.
As always, take care, stay safe, God bless!
