Hey everyone. Today I want to share a bit more about what's coming in the next update: Updated Islands, revamped trap rooms, timed chests and behavioral changes to several enemies.

Much like the changes to caves mentioned just a couple of days ago, islands have also undergone some changes. Islands are now optional content, you get to choose whether to go to the island or to just keep going through the main rooms. But why would you want to go to the islands you ask?

Islands now also have larger variants with new content. While generally smaller than the new caves, these locations can be very rewarding. This is one of the main places where you can encounter the new "timed chests". These chests are challenges. Each chest has a certain reward type: gold, health or items. Interacting with the chest will start the challenge. As the challenge is going on the reward will slowly start to decrease. Complete the challenge to stop the reward from decreasing and claim what is left.

Trap rooms have also been changed. In the current version they are very static encounters, they barely change run to run. In the coming update this will change. There are multiple new trap types coming to illagus. New spike traps that active when you walk on it, buzz saw traps that follow a set path and cut anything in their way and beartraps that are difficult to spot and can hurt a lot, but can only trigger once. Aside from just new traps, the way the trap rooms are made has also changed slightly so that there's a lot more variety run to run.

Several of the enemies have had slight behavioral changes made to them. This is one of the many changes that are and will be coming to hopefully improve the combat in illagus. These changes make the enemies less mindless creatures and more reactive to you, the player, and what you are doing. This will hopefully create more interactive, challenging and interesting encounters. As mentioned, this is one of the many changes coming to the combat system, both in the coming update and updates after that. More on this soon.

If you made it this far, thank you so much! I hope you are excited for the coming update. As always if you have any questions, suggestions or feedback I'd love to hear it.

More information about the combat system and changed/new enemies and bosses coming on the 4th with the update launching on the 5th of March.
