From the website: “The "Chat Control" proposal would mandate scanning of all private digital communications, including encrypted messages and photos. This threatens fundamental privacy rights and digital security for all EU citizens.
You will be affected. Every photo, every message, every file you send will be automatically scanned—without your consent or suspicion. This is not about catching criminals. It is mass surveillance imposed on all 450 million citizens of the European Union.”
This is against the Articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter, which are rights considered core to European democratic values.
They will be using AI / automated scanners to do this.
No exceptions* to anyone. Every PRIVATE messages , files, images and all such will be scanned. (*EU politicians exempt themselves from this surveillance under "professional secrecy" rules. They get privacy. Everyone else don't.)
This is especially for people with dark/rude humour, as the scanning might be of false positives; it might mark harmless messages such as your private dark jokes, summer vacation images, and so on as "illegal" without knowing the context.
Their supposed goal to "protect children" with this also actually makes this a less safe space for children, as this only will weaken the security for everyone.
6 member states opposed, while 15 supports. The other 6 member states are left undecided. You still have a chance to make them oppose this.
