This video shows the secret dungeon “Subterranean River”

A few very important notes are in order.

• First of all this is a WORK IN PROGRESS! So there are BUGS!! And other UNWANTED THINGS you’ll see that will of course ALL be TAKEN CARE OF in the “FINAL” VERSION of this game :P

• For example the typo on Jake’s “The music she plays” speech has already been fixed.

• You may see an HP drop on the first level up, that is because I rebalanced the the character stats prior to the video recording, but the characters only take effect on such changes the first time they level up. I guess I don’t have to tell you that in the “final” version such changes will not happen anymore (or at least not THIS drastic).

• Speaking of rebalancing, I know the fights in this video look too easy. I am already working hard to take care of that “issue”. Plus this is a dungeon in a very early stage of the game, so it goes without saying the later dungeons will be harder.

• The bags you see do not yet work. When the game is finished they will appear at random containing a random consumable item or a random amount of money. The kind of item and the amount of money is of course dependent on the dungeon you are in.

• Yeah, the antidote missed because curing status changes was not yet present. Status changes wearing of after battle is how it was intended to work.

• Yeah the config tab in the menu doesn’t yet work and this video shows that. Needless to say that WILL be taken care of in the first beta release… right?

Now some nice notices

• Jake was voiced by W. Chan and Marrilona was voiced by E. Klein-Hulse.

• Jake says “Yes, I won!” after batter and Marrilona says “The ‘V’ for Victory” (hence the gesture she makes).

• Marrilona says “Relight my fire!” when she uses her flame wand. She will say the same when casting a regular Fire Spell. This was a very obvious reference to a song with the same name. More references will be made during the game, and let’s see if you can find them all ;)

• The story line in the Fairy Tale is part of the Phantasar Lore. A very expanded lore related to The Phantasar Chronicles. The character Melody that “our heroes” meet at the end of this dungeon only plays a very minor role in the game. All she does is give you your reward for completing the game (talking to her is also the trigger for that achievement you get). She does tell you she’s the 8th Elf of the First Generation, and that makes her a member of a very select group of Elves that play a VERY EXTREMELY IMPORTANT part in the Phantasar Lore as a whole. The events she described happened over 40,000 years prior to the events of this story, so I guess it’s not that odd that Jake and Marrilona are a bit clueless what she’s talking about. A 500 pages long novel describes this event more. “The Secrets of Dyrt” also makes some references to the same events. The Elf Rosetta which you can meet in The Secrets of Dyrt (and who also makes a kind of “cameo” in Star Story) is also an Elf of the First Generation. Unlike regular Elves who only live for about 700 to 800 years (a few exceptions, since Hando Stillor is over 1000 years old), the Elves of the First Generation live eternally and have exceptional powers (in Melody’s case that’s her abilities in music, and what this game shows is only the tip of the iceberg of her abilities in that field). As their name implies they were the first Elves to walk the ground of Phantasar and therefore the ancestors of all other Elves.

Oh yeah, this is a SECRET dungeon, which you can unlock as soon as you completed all 4 prologue missions. I am not gonna tell you how to unlock it :-P
