I've been playing around with mixing 2D Sprites and 3D background in Unreal Engine a lot recently and put together a tutorial!

I'm also using these settings as a base to make a side scrolling beat 'em up.

Next up

This project started as me finally trying out what Unreal Engine can do with 2D, but after seeing the nice result of Sprites in a stylized 3D world I decided to start making a side scrolling beat 'em up with this style. Stay tuned for more updates.
